Oban

Oban (Scottish Gaelic: An t-Òban, meaning “The Little Bay”) is a busy fishing port, ferry terminal and popular seaside resort located in Argyll and Bute on Scotland’s west coast.

With a resident population of around 8,000 people, Oban is the largest town between Helensburgh and Fort William. During the busy tourist season the town welcomes many additional visitors, creating a lively and vibrant atmosphere.

The town enjoys a beautiful setting on the Firth of Lorn. Oban Bay forms a near-perfect horseshoe, sheltered by the island of Kerrera, with Mull beyond. To the north lies the island of Lismore, with views across to the mountains of Morvern and Ardgour.

Often known as “The Gateway to the Isles” and sometimes referred to as “The Seafood Capital of Scotland”, Oban offers visitors a wide choice of activities, sightseeing opportunities and day trips.

From Oban harbour, CalMac Ferries operate regular sailings to several islands including Mull, Iona, Coll and Barra, making the town an ideal base for exploring the Hebrides.
